Day 1: The Great Barrier Reef

No Cairns day comes close to a full day on the outer reef. Our reef tours depart from Marlin Marina in the morning, and it’s worth being there about 15 minutes early, as the boat won’t wait for latecomers.

You head out to the outer reef, where visibility and coral are at their best. Snorkelling is included on our standard reef tours, with gear provided and guides in the water. If you want to go deeper, introductory dives are available for first-timers and certified divers can join guided dives. Expect turtles, reef fish and coral gardens, with the marine life depending on the day.

If you’d prefer a gentler, shorter reef day, Green Island and Fitzroy Island are calmer island options closer to shore, and suit families and first-timers. But if you can handle a full day on the water, the outer reef is worth it.

Day 2: Into the Rainforest

Your second day depends on how you want to move through the landscape. Two options, neither a wrong choice, and both booked with us.

Option A: Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation

The Daintree is one of the oldest tropical rainforests on Earth. A guided day tour takes you north along the coast, handling the drive and the Daintree River crossing. The day can include a river cruise (watch for crocodiles), rainforest walks and time at Cape Tribulation, where the rainforest meets the Coral Sea. Option B: Kuranda Village

Kuranda sits up in the ranges above Cairns, reached by the Skyrail cableway over the canopy and the Scenic Railway through the ranges. Most visitors do one each way. Our Kuranda Skyrail and Scenic Rail experience bundles it together with transfers handled. The village has markets and rainforest attractions, and it’s a shorter day than the Daintree.
