The Great Barrier Reef is a miraculous stretch of coastline that encompasses vibrant coral reefs, endless marine life and stunning tropical beaches.

Underwater from Great Barrier Reef

Whether you are diving down to view the surreal marine life below the water, taking a stroll along one of the world’s best beaches or sitting back and enjoying a cocktail with a view like no other, the Great Barrier Reef rightfully holds its place as one of the world’s natural wonders.

The best time of the year to visit the Great Barrier Reef is between the months of June to October. During these months the temperatures are lower and rainfall is low, making for greater visibility when marvelling at the beautiful sea life.

Now that you know the best time to visit this spectacular natural wonder, what are some of the awesome activities you will be getting up to on the Reef?

  • Snorkelling or diving, obviously!

The Great Barrier Reef is one of the world’s top snorkelling and diving destinations. Why? Because it is home to some 2,900 distinct coral reefs, 6,000 square metres of seagrass beds and thousands of species of fish and other marine life. Regardless of whether you’re staying close to shore, taking in the view with a lighthearted snorkel, or going further out for a deep dive, the Great Barrier Reef is the perfect place to see marine life at its most beautifully diverse!

  • It is home to the world’s best beaches

The Great Barrier Reef and its pristine beaches have a reputation for tropical splendour, whether you’re lazing around on the sand or heading out to the coral below. In fact, Whitehaven Beach was just named the world’s best beach in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best awards. The beach is only accessible by sea or air, and its remote location only adds to its surreal tranquility and beauty.

  • Go glass bottom boating

If getting out amongst all that sea life is not really your thing, you can always jump aboard a glass bottom boat tour. These tours run daily and allow you the opportunity to view this natural wonder without actually having to rub shoulders with a sea turtle.

So, get down to the Great Barrier Reef between June and October, when the weather is fine and there is truly something for everyone to enjoy. See you there!
