The Great Barrier Reef is one of the world’s most impressive natural wonders. Sprawling out along the Queensland coastline, it is home to numerous reefs and dive spots. Each boasts their own mesmerising array of marine life and views.

One such spot, Breaking Patches, proves to be a firm favourite with divers. This exclusive shallow reef dips just 16m below the sea surface. The area gives divers a shallow place to explore the eclectic selection of sea creatures that call the area home.

Its ecosystem is made up of hard and soft coral, including unique varieties like Staghorn and Black Coral Trees. Breaking Patches provides a fascinating backdrop like no other reef in the region.

The Marine Life at Breaking Patches

Perhaps the biggest draw to Breaking Patches though is its amazing selection of marine life. Here, you can dive and swim alongside vibrant fish species, like angelfish, lionfish, and parrotfish.

Braking Patches is best-known for its collection of green sea turtles. This ancient species has called the area home for centuries and centuries. Divers and snorkelers here will be amazed at how friendly the turtles are. Many of which will happily swim alongside humans in a unique underwater show.

As well as turtles and fish species, you might also have the chance to see a range of other marine creatures, including Christmas tree worms, anemone, clownfish, and butterflyfish, which swim amongst the corals in the shallowest areas of Breaking Patches.

Scuba Diving and Snorkelling at Breaking Patches

The best way to explore everything Breaking Patches has to offer is to scuba dive or snorkel. This is one of the most popular activities in the area, because it gives you the chance to get up close and personal with the fascinating range of marine life on offer.

As you delve beneath the water’s surface, you’ll be greeted by swim through and overhangs that are filled with species, and you can graze the sandy floor of the sea bed, where sea cucumbers hunt for tasty treats.

If you’re looking to explore one of the most undiscovered parts of the Great Barrier Reef, Breaking Patches is a great place to start. You’ll get to experience ancient marine life and swim alongside some of the region’s most colourful fish and sea species. Delve beneath the water’s surface and discover a new world entirely.
