Moore Reef is one of the more popular outer reefs within the Great Barrier Reef, located about 50 kilometres from Cairns. The journey from Cairns to Moore Reef takes about 1.5 hours, and you can spend a full day enjoying fun activities on the pontoon.

What to do on Moore Reef’s pontoon

A pontoon is a large boat that sits in the middle of the reef. The Moore Reef pontoon offers a variety of enjoyable activities for the day. You can jump in the water and explore the reef through diving or snorkelling, or enjoy the waterslides and pool on the pontoon. For those who prefer not to get in the water, take the glass bottom boat tour to experience the marine life without getting wet. Alternatively, you can stay onboard and indulge in delicious food while enjoying the views all day.

What marine life can I see?

Moore Reef is home to a diverse range of marine species. While it is not guaranteed that you will see specific creatures, you may be lucky enough to spot reef sharks, stunning sea turtles, or even the massive Māori wrasse. There are also plenty of smaller fish scattered throughout the reef.
