Pontoons are a great way to explore the gorgeous Great Barrier Reef. Why? You read it here!

A pontoon is like a large boat, but it stays floating in the middle of the water. There are facilities like toilets, showers, and changing rooms. You’ll also find a pool and waterslide too!

Currently, there are three pontoons on the Great Barrier Reef. You can get to one of these three pontoons via a boat that drops and picks up travellers to go between the reefs.

What can I do on a pontoon?

There is a range of different activities you can do when on a pontoon. Here’s a list of what you can do!

Snorkelling

Snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef is one of the most exciting activities you can do. On the pontoon, there is a platform where you can go snorkelling from. Once you’ve done your lessons and you have your snorkelling gear on, get into the water and start spotting marine life! It’s so exciting to be able to see what the world is like underwater in the Great Barrier Reef.

Diving

Whether you’re an expert or a beginner, diving is for everyone! You get to explore more of the Great Barrier Reef and go deeper into the water. It’s so exciting to be able to swim along with some marine life like turtles. On the pontoon, there is a section where you can go diving off a platform.

Glass bottom boat

If swimming and getting in the water isn’t your thing, don’t worry! There is a glass bottom boat you can go on to be able to see underwater. It’s great to do this option to relax and see the colourful coral and marine life swimming around.

Kid’s pool

Have you got kids with you? You can let them have fun at this perfect kid’s pool! They probably won’t want to leave anymore. There are lifeguards watching the little ones, so you can explore the reef and go snorkelling for a bit, or relax.

Waterslide

Kids and adults can enjoy this amazing theme park style waterslide! There is a 30 metre spiral slide that you slide down and splash into the ocean! This is perfect for everyone to enjoy and is the only waterslide on the Great Barrier Reef.

Food

Getting a bit hungry? The pontoons have food available on board! You can get yourself a buffet lunch and enjoy a range of different foods. You can enjoy the food in the dining area before getting back into the water again.

Out of the three pontoons, we have no doubt you’ll enjoy yourself out in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef. Be sure you try out snorkelling, diving, or go on the bottom-glass boat!
